A Good Melon.

Today I taught the kids how to pick a good melon.

It was one of those sweet moments as a parent, a passing on of a little knowledge, something simple that grows profound, a sensory experience they'll reference the rest of their lives.

And one day when my girls are old enough to be so enlightened, I'll make sure they see Steel Magnolias and Dirty Dancing and every single Nora Ephron movie.  They'll probably groan for being forced to watch old movies, and laugh at everyone's hair, but, they will watch and they will enjoy it.  We will bond over it.  Oh, yes, we will bond.

And that's when they'll learn that every time I pick a good melon, I think of this woman...
