The Shack

Blogland, I know you were all just on pins and needles waiting to see pictures of our transformed Love Shack. I just know you were....ahem. For a before picture, go ahead and click here. As for the afters, here's how it went down...

My Inspiration: Serafina. I fell hard for this pattern when it came out in August. I mean, hard. It hurt. It is perfect. It's also so unbelievably expensive there was no way I was going to get what I wanted- enough fabric by the ($25 each!) yard to make drapes.

So, scratch that- after my dedicated friend Jen- the practically perfect in every way one who made the ornaments I showed you last week- looked for a (please be on clearance in the store, because sometimes stuff in stores is clearanced when it's still full price online!!) shower curtain for me to make due with for creating drapes, and then even called her nearby outlet for me- no hope. Pottery Barn, if you would lower your prices you know I would buy more stuff from you. You know it. And you're not fooling anyone- I know you're hurting. You're sending out like, three emails a day and offering free shipping and monogramming like nobody's business and I know you're hurting. Let me help you, Pottery Barn. Let me help you.

I opted for a pillow cover instead, which did the job nicely. Basically, every color I love is in this pattern. So then, I just shopped my house, and hit a few thrift stores last weekend while I had some time to myself and the stage was set. I love finding lovely and unique things in thrift stores that I couldn't find anywhere else. Love it. And, I'm still workin' on that throw...

Oh, and the drapes? I decided on cream faux silk. Around $40 at Target. And then I found some that were exactly what I wanted at a thrift store for $5 a panel. Woot! They aren't up yet. A snooty woman would have waited until her room was perfect before she showed it to you. Clearly I'm not snooty...well, you can be the judge of that...but I know the room for sure isn't "done". Whether that helps my non-snoot status or not is up for grabs.
The color is Sherwin-Williams 6199 Rare Gray. My kitchen is 6206 Oyster Bay, and I love it. I just went to the color card that comes right before it (more of a true gray) and chose the shade in it's same slot. Same feeling, a little less blue, more gray. It's very close to the kitchen color, and I don't mind. It's wonderful- very relaxing. And, the color combinations for this room are endless- everything really pops against it. I know this room will change a bit once I admit it's really winter, and things will be more wintry. And it will be really fun to go crazy with bright color in summer!

This is our anniversary...6.8.02... And speaking of the man I married- why did I get to receive my Christmas gift and paint before the end of November, much less before Christmas? He says your votes were no part of his decision whatsoever, and he couldn't be swayed by popular opinion...but he told me I could paint...it's because he's simply awesome, of course. And, the conditions? I'll let you use your imaginations on that one...OK, just kidding, the one condition was that I never paint while he was home. And I complied. And I'm done.

Closet and Bathroom pictures tomorrow!

I love it, Megan!! I wish we had a good corner for a desk in our room so I could turn the office in a classroom of sorts.

As always, beautiful decorating.

love the color... and the fabric. I love pottery barn too, but they are way out of my league. I love to try and create the look on a budget... it is a fun challenge!

Of course, another beautiful room! I really love your color choices. I especially like how you think ahead to how the different season will look in there.

The Serafina... it was love at first sight.
