If History Repeats Itself...

The day after Halloween, I drove home from running errands to find...my neighbors had taken down their tacky giant blow-up grave yard disaster (believe me when they put that baby up on October 1, I was all, "Oh No they Di-ent"- but yes, they did.) OK, so back to Point 1: I drive up to see garland and red bows adorning their fence! November 1! Oh, NO they DI-ENT!
And yesterday they broke out the big guns- ladders, icicle lights, big blow-up Christmas what-nots... a week before Thanksgiving. At least they held out this long. I had my doubts...they proved me wrong.
And I'm saying hello to the multitudinous tacky blow-up wonders and trying my best to make good friends with them, since I know they'll be with me right outside across the street and out my big living room window...for a while.
Like last year, they were taken down the same day we closed on our house... which was March 13. So yeah. If history repeats itself, we'll have yuletide greetings for months to come.
Don't get me wrong, by the way. I'm all excited to the max about Christmas, and the first Christmas we'll have in our new house- our girls are pretty excited too, which only adds to the...excitement. I usually decorate for Christmas during the week of Thanksgiving- whatever day I feel like doing it, I go for it- no one is ever here for Thanksgiving, so I can go all out and have it finished and we can enjoy it right away. You have to do it when you feel like it, you know? It's sort of a big task...you know, with four kids and two dogs helping unpack every single box...

ok this post should have included a photo! Or even better, a photo of you trying to hide in the shrubbery to discreetly get a photo of the monstosities without getting caught. Love lights but I don't get those blow up things. We went to this big Christmas lights event and in reality, all it was was a bunch of the blow up things! Bummer!

People around here have been doing the full-blown Christmas thing too... Christmas trees, lights, etc.

It's looks really silly because the leaves aren't even fully off the tress yet!

Eve's been all... But we haven't had Thanksgiving yet!

That's what I'm saying.

I can't believe the $ people spend on those tacky blow up things/plastic lawn thingys/etc. I mean there are some cute ones out there, but not very many and people go ALL OUT and spend probably thousands on decor!
None of our neighbors are too wacky...now around the block there is a home that does the whole nine yards! I like a few lights on some trees...simpler type of stuff is more for me.
I'll be with you next week...decorating...getting the boxes out and taking my time...hoping for this babe to come....because the next Monday is Dec. 1.
And if you recall...I'm having a NOVEMBER baby :)

We decorate after my hubbys birthday (nov 8). But our Thanksgiving is the beginning of October--so once November hits it's CHRISTMAS FEVER!! (see one of my last posts! kids couldn't wait until I recovered from the flu!)

No tackiness here, but my neighbours, as well, have those beautiful plastic candy canes, and fake "candles" adorning there yard...oooh..no they di-ent!

Happy Thanksgiving to you..enjoy Christmas decorating.

Ugh. That's a lot of decorations. I don't get those blow up things either - I can even stand people putting up lights after Halloween, after all it's warmer than it will be later. This will be our first Christmas in our new house too - I plan to decorate the first week of December...and I plan to have the stuff down and put away by week 2 of January. March 13?? wow. Hopefully it was left up just because it was really cold out...and will come down a bit earlier this year.

I agree, we need a picture! Although, I'm sure we can all imagine...

We decorate the day after Thanksgiving. It's tradition! Although, this year, I am really wanting to bust out the music this week.

ok, I love that this is a free country and all - really, I do. And I try really hard to respect a person's right to choose WHEN to decorate. But for pity's sake, if it is going to be tacky - let's keep it short-lived =)

Yes, photo please! We have a house in a mile away that does that. So glad I don't have to look at it everyday!

That is so funny!! Everyone in our neighborhood is retired and they dont put up with any of that business, they totally freak out about when things can be decorated and when they come down.

I want a picture!

Ris's idea was FUNNY! I'm all for that. Especially since we don't have any near neighbors to make fun of ;-) I mean, with whom to share Christmas joy.

We have our own "Griswalds" about a block away from our house. They had their stuff up right around the first of this month too!

When we drove by it, all I was thinking was, "I can't believe they have ALL that tacky stuff up already." And then at about the same time my daughter says, "Oh look at all the beautiful lights!" Mmmm, I guess beauty really is in the eye of the beholder:)

Well have a wonderful Thanksgiving in spite of having to look at Christmas decorations across the street.

Maybe you and the kids could offer to help them take them down in Jan. instead of March.

I hope that all is well with you and your sweet family. I'd love to hear from you. I wish you well. Love, Grammy Lura
