Money Monday Aint Been Done Like This Before...

Who makes my blog rules? Me! So here we are- Money Monday on a...Friday. Behold, Ladies, the power of dedication. I did get to it- didn't want you to think I'd forgotten altogether!

Money Tip of the Week: Never Settle. When it matters, get what you want, the first time. If you don't, you'll just replace it later...with what you wanted in the first place...therefore spending more money than you would have if you would have saved and waited.

Case in point- The mirror fiasco. I knew this rule. I lived this rule. When I made this purchase, I knew I was breaking...my own rule. And I did it anyway.

When we moved, I knew I wanted a large mirror for above our sofa- for added depth, light and ahem...reflection? in our main area. The perfect one was at Lowe's. It was more than I wanted to spend (I was buying many things at once.) It was $100. I wanted to go lower, but I wanted a mirror...NOW!

I found this one at Bed Bath & Beyond for about $60, with a coupon. It was similar...right? Silver, check. Biggish, check. Reflective...check. Even as I was checking out, I had my reservations. I really, really wanted the other one. For whatever reason, and honestly, I can't figure out why I did it now, I got this one anyway. I should have just gotten the other- I mean, we're talking a measly $40, for a huge difference! I had just moved. Do I get to play that card? I will anyway.

Jim lovingly hung it for me- a little high, but, it was late, and I didn't want to ask him to go through it again. So, here I was with a mirror that was 1. too high 2. not the "right" silver 3. not nearly big enough 4. just looked "cheapish" to me, because it couldn't live up to the standards of the beloved Lowe's mirror.

That mirror never left my mind. I thought of it often. I knew I'd get it someday, but would have to have a good reason...like if the other one broke.... Too dangerous. But I could hope.

Last week, I happened upon it, now on clearance in preparations for new arrivals, marked down to $60! I didn't even have to think about it. She was mine. I carried her all the way to the front, while pushing a cart and toting four children. Am I woman or what?!

I ripped that bad girl out of the box as soon as she hit the house.
Then, it was all about asking this guy in just the nicest way I could, to hang it. Life was too crazy last week to ask. I left it out in our bedroom, suggestively, all weekend while I was away. She was still there when I got back. Hmmm... I needed stronger tactics. But then, a couple of nights ago, the mood seemed right- rather, we had nothing else going on that night and I felt bold. I asked. I received. We got out the drill and poof, it was done.

Isn't she beautiful?! Hung just right, so the dogs and kids aren't tempted to mess with it, but not too high. That man can hang a mirror, I tell you. This is, I assure you, one of many fine attributes in his possession.

Waste not, want not. Mirror #1 (which is pretty in it's own right) is going in my Master Closet, where I have been wanting a mirror anyway. Case Closed.

It's really hard to get my camera to take clear pictures in a mirror. Jim indulged me through take after take. None were really successful.
This one was better, but not really.
He got tired of indulging me with all the shots, and took a shot of his own. And then like, seven more, while I tried to get a good picture. None worked.
Oh, ahem. And then, he really indulged...Friday. The new Monday. Happy "Monday", one and all.

I couldn't agree more. This is definitely one of my rules when shopping. I mean, I'm all about a bargain, and I'm all about less expensive alternatives... On something big, though, I always ask myself if I'm getting the right one or if I'm just getting one to have one.
Meanwhile, how cute are you and the hubby?

I screw up on this rule all too often - especially when it comes to clothes for me. I get something on sale just because it's one sale - bad choice, Lisa! Anyway - I LOVE the new mirror! It really does look fabulous - and although the old one looked good - this one looks great.

PS - You & Jim are too cute - oh my!

I sure do love a good mirror! I am going to have to remember that rule... I am terrible about that sort of thing. I get really, really stingy :)

Your posts are such fun :)
