The Only Place

When I am doing the dishes, the utensil basket in the dishwasher is the only place your hands want to be.

When I am vacuuming the house- right in front of the vacuum- that's the only place you want to be.

When I am taking a shower, my bathroom is the only place you want to be.

When I am paying the bills, under my desk is the only place you want to be.

When I am folding the laundry, the laundry room is the only place you want to be.

When I steal away a moment to myself in the midst of a busy day, you find me. Right by my side, on my lap, right in the middle of my book is the only place you want to be.

Baby, I can tell you with no doubts that for all these years I've been a Mama, for all the days full of joy and challenge, frustration and victory, love and discipline and work and fun- even on our worst day, this is the only place I want to be.

Could you have written anything more beautiful and poignant? I think not.

Soon, they will all fly away. There will be no more squirming little bodies acting as our shadow. That will be a sad day indeed. Thank you for the reminder to appreciate every precious moment, inconvenient or not.
