?M: In Which She Answers Even More Random Questions

Lauren and some misc. others in the past weeks have asked about they type of camera I use, and what photo software I have. I needed to replace my three and a half year old digital camera this spring (it was a Cannon) and wanted desperately to finally get an SLR. But, I knew the cost wasn't wise for us right now, and once I started getting into it, the hobby might just consume me. And I'm a little consumed elsewhere right now... so next time, it's a nice camera. I chose the Nikon Coolpix S550, The Engineer's top pick for a nice point and shoot. He was right- see honey? I said you were right! It is great- there are several nice features, by no means as nice as what I really wanted, but, I've got what I need and more in that little baby. I'd recommend it, and the price was nice. Ashton Kutcher uses one, so it must be nice, right?
As for editing software, I actually use Snapfish for all my storing and ordering needs, and Flickr for photos that I want an extra-special finish on. I have the free account, with the Picnik upgrade. Once you start playing with those creative options, layering effect on effect, you can create some beautiful pictures!
Ahem, I even won WWWAT last time around (she says smugly), with Picnik-altered photos. And speaking of WWWAT, I want to point you to American Mum's site for some great basic photo tips, she's got a lot of them.
Annika asked what my favorite indulgence was. I could dream up several "never get to have it" ones, but as for something accessible every day (I assume you mean food indulgences, ahem), this is my favorite. In the afternoon, in winter, I brew a fresh cup of coffee. Then, I get out one square of Ghirardelli dark chocolate and put it on a plate with a pile of about 1 T of coconut. Then- do you see where I'm going with this???- I dip a small portion of the square into my steamy-creamy coffee and then press that into the coconut, then I just eat the coconut off the chocolate, which is melty and amazing, and eat the whole square that way. Talk about savoring chocolate. Ahhhh.
Mandy asked me if I have any boy tips- she's having a boy this winter! Well, Miranda, I have a treasure of girl-tips, but do have this one nugget of truth for the mother of boys: Don't change his diaper with your mouth open.

Do you know what? I just won a Nikon Coolshot at Hubby's company picnic on Saturday. FREE - wahoo! Was it the exact camera I was dreaming of? NO. Does it do the job I need right now? YES!

The chocolate sounds sooo good! (except I don't like coconut, so maybe there is something that could be subsituted!) Hmm... :-)
