Chipped

Sunday morning the girls were up in front singing some songs from VBS extravaganza 2008. Always cute. Oh, and yes, I was that mom who just happened to have her camera in her purse, just for moments like this. Honestly, it goes with us nearly every time we go out. But then they went to children's church since they were with everyone else (they usually sit with us). They made these for Father's Day.
I love how they're both trying really hard not to smile nicely. So sweet of them. (Cute, nonetheless). Catch what the back says?
Yeah, it's supposed to say this...

Now, I'm sure this was unintentional, and whoever did it had no idea they were misleading anyone, or incorrectly quoting the Word, or even that if you're going to cut off a sentence midway, you need these... not a . You don't get to just insert those . anywhere you want. They could have just cut it off after "Honor your father and mother" and if they'd forgotten the ... it wouldn't have been too big of a deal...to the English major me. But really, that just isn't what it says. And that's not the first commandment. I think someone else goes a little higher than parents... That's all I'm sayin'.

You are just too cute. It would take an English major mom to notice and of course you are right.(Now that I know you are an English major I am going to have to proof read my posts much better...or... I have an idea....after I post them why don't you be my editor and send me the revised verson. Sounds good to me! By the way, just to make myself clear to my English Major friend...I know you are not suppose to put sentences together with a series of periods.....but it is just my thing. Hee Hee)

We all know that ti honor our parents is not the first commandment but is it the first one with a promise attached? I think maybe it is. Perhaps that is what they meant here.(Just to make you feel better)

Thank you so much dear Megan for the sweet comment you left on my post. I APPRECIATE YOU and always LOOK FORWARD to HEARING FROM YOU.
LOL...Have a great day.

Yes, it the whole "with a promise..." thing IS pretty important. Have you guys read Sheparding a Child's Heart? Seems like maybe you have based on all your posts and stories. We're doing it in Sunday school. Very good.

I'm now nervous that an English major is reading my writing.....

I think the best part of that verse is the part they left out. Too bad!!!

Tsk. Tsk. Misuse of an ellipsis. Or more accurately, misuse of a period.

It does change the entire meaning though, doesn't it? But honestly? I'm not sure I would have noticed it.

I agree, they should check their sources. Wonder if a child helped with that. I thought "huh?" with the 1st commandment thing too. Don't want to teach our kids incorrectly about the Bible!

English majors ROCK! I refer to myself often as an Ex English Major. :) Makes me feel all cool, even when I'm really terrible at grammar. :)
